How it works

One canonical route, two directions

GIWA is an OP Stack chain, so ETH moves through the same portal contracts every OP Stack network uses. Deposits rise from Ethereum; withdrawals come back down with a proof.

Deposit

~2 minutes

Arrives once the deposit has a few confirmations on Ethereum.

  1. 01
    Send from EthereumYou sign

One transaction. Giwera keeps 10% and the rest is locked in the OptimismPortal on Ethereum.

  2. 02
    Picked up by GIWA~2 minutes

The sequencer reads the deposit from Ethereum and mints the same amount on GIWA.

  3. 03
    Ready on GIWA

Use it right away: pay gas, use apps or send it anywhere on GIWA.

Withdrawal

~7 days

Mostly the challenge period that protects every withdrawal to Ethereum.

  1. 01
    Start on GIWAYou sign

One transaction. Giwera keeps 10% and the rest leaves GIWA through the L2ToL1MessagePasser.

  2. 02

A state root that includes your withdrawal is posted to Ethereum.

  3. 03

A safety window in which an invalid proposal could still be challenged.

Fees

One flat fee, both ways

Plus the network gas, which goes to the networks and not to Giwera.

On every deposit and every withdrawal. Nothing else is added on top.

Taken where you start

The fee leaves in the same transaction as your transfer, on Ethereum for deposits and on GIWA for withdrawals. What arrives is fixed the moment you sign.

The rest takes the canonical route

After the fee, your ETH goes through the standard OP Stack contracts of GIWA: the OptimismPortal and the L2ToL1MessagePasser.

The rate you saw is the rate you pay

You sign with the rate shown in the app. If it changed in the meantime the transfer is refused instead of charged. The contracts cap it at 10%.

FAQ

Before you bridge

What is Giwera?
A bridge for ETH between Ethereum and GIWA. Transfers run through the canonical OP Stack contracts of GIWA: the OptimismPortal on Ethereum and the L2ToL1MessagePasser on GIWA. No one holds your funds in between; Giwera adds a router in front of them that takes the bridge fee in the same transaction.
What does it cost?
A 10% bridge fee on deposits and a 10% bridge fee on withdrawals, taken from the amount you send. On top comes the network gas, paid to the networks: one Ethereum transaction for a deposit; one GIWA and two Ethereum transactions for a withdrawal. The app shows both before you sign.
How long does a deposit take?
About 2 minutes. GIWA picks a deposit up once it has a few confirmations on Ethereum, then mints the ETH on GIWA.
Why does a withdrawal take 7 days?
Ethereum cannot trust GIWA blindly. A withdrawal is first included in a state proposal posted to Ethereum (within 2 hours), then you prove it, then it waits out a challenge period of 7 days in which an invalid proposal could be disputed, and finally you claim it. Proving and claiming are two Ethereum transactions you sign in the app, under Activity.
Where do I bridge?
In the app at app.giwera.xyz. This site only explains; every transfer happens in the app.
Which wallets can I use?
Any EVM wallet such as MetaMask or Rabby.
Can I bridge to a different address?
Yes. Click the recipient under the amount and paste another address. The ETH arrives there on the other network; double check it, because transfers cannot be reversed.

Send your first bits up to GIWA.

Connect MetaMask, Rabby or any other EVM wallet to start.
